Nutrition & Food Security

More than one million people in Pennsylvania are “food insecure,” meaning that at some point during the year, they are unsure if they will be able to access the food necessary to lead active, healthy lives. Meanwhile, the obesity epidemic in the United States and Pennsylvania disproportionately impacts high-needs populations, often those who are experiencing food insecurity. The Research & Evaluation Group at PHMC has been actively involved in numerous nutrition and food insecurity studies and program evaluations. From conducting an observational study of a school lunch intervention to engaging senior citizens in focus groups about food insecurity, our team is experienced in a multitude of methodologies to identify impediments to food access and to support healthy food interventions and nutrition education programs.
